We've all seen this happen. An empty lot in an established residential neighbourhood suddenly sprouts a structure that has more in common with a mars habitat than any home in the neighbourhood. Why does this happen? Is there something that can be done to discourage this kind of development?
The 2nd of a seminar series entitled "A Citizens' Guide to New Urbanism", will have us explore the important considerations required to create successful in-fill residential and commercial developments. Developments that will have the community saying "Yes, In My Back Yard".
We will explore such concepts as human scale, vernacular architecture, form based zoning codes and neighbour engagement.
